" You would have to live with it"

A phrase none of us like to hear. Yet, one that is commonly used. The fact that many of our ailments are not easily remedied may mean that the above phrase may be true.

Yet, have you ever wondered how you developed that knee or hip problem? Lower back or ankle pain?

Would you believe it could have been caused by the way your foot works? For many people this may be the underlying cause and by changing the shoe your foot
is working in, pain can be reduced and even disappear; this is done by the introduction of an orthotic, a device to control or part control your foot motion.

The gait cycle is a sequence of events

of which foot function forms one part.
The aim of human locomotion is to be energy-efficient process that allows smooth movement. The function of the foot is governed by anatomical structures and their inter-relationships during movement.

During the gait cycle, the foot is able to exhibit two opposing features: a stable platform for proportion and support at heel strike, and flexibility to disperse the forces generated by locomotion whilst simultaneously adapting to the terrain under the foot.

Abnormal foot function may arise as a result of misalignment in the lower limb, pelvis and back.

Furthermore, an abnormal gait cycle can trigger other problems in the foot and leg.

To make Functional Foot Orthoses (orthotic), I capture the correct shape and bone alignment of your foot by casting it. A model of your foot is then made and using this information as well as an assessment of your walk, leg and hip movement, create a fine tuned orthotic to refine your action of your foot.

Your feet work hard for you and they are your main contact with the ground. Make sure you are caring for them and they will be kinder to you and the rest of your body.

It does not matter how old you are, people of all ages benefit from specialist footcare, whether you simply walk for pleasure or are actively involved in sport.
