It is a rhythmical and deeply relaxing massage where the skin and underlying tissue is methodically stretched with a gentle circular pumping action to conform to the directions of the lymphatic flow. In cases of lymphoedema it redirects lymph fluid from a damaged or under-functioning part of the body to a functioning part of the body for elimination. Bandaging and/or compression garments on the affected limb is usually an adjunct to lymph drainage therapy in the treatment of lymphoedema. |
